A clever little fountain, hidden in plain site
You could drive by this fountains for years, and never notice it. I did just that. However, it’s worth a trip on foot to see this little courtyard on the back corner of Duke Energy area of uptown Charlotte.
At first glance, this fountain looks like a four-foot high structure of the Earth in black granite. As you get closer, you notice the outlines of continents and islands etched into the stone. Finally, you see—and hear—the water flowing from the flowing out of the pedestal as the globe slowly rotates. You can even spin the Earth on its floating foundation yourself.
